Text Box: Text Box: Mystery Reader
Mystery Reader is a fun way to volunteer in the first grade classroom. Students love having their family, friends, and relatives visit our classroom to share in our learning by reading a favorite story aloud to our class. You need to sign up to read to the class on a Friday in the Sign Up Book (Please sign up at Back to School night.) I will send you a reminder note the week of your reading. This is a secret—do not tell your child that you are reading for our class! You will send in five clues about yourself. Example, on Monday I will read that you like chocolate. On Tuesday that you like chocolate and you were in a triathlon. The clues should become easier day by day. Finally, on Friday, you will arrive at 2:00 and reveal yourself. You will read one or two books of your choice to the class. You may bring props, snacks, etc. We look forward to hearing from you! The kids love Mystery Reader!
Text Box: Text Box: Tuesday Folder
Each Tuesday, we send home our graded papers, lunch forms, and notes in our Tuesday folder. I will have a sign up sheet available on Back to School night for you to volunteer to sort the papers and fill the folders for me. You may come at your convenience as long as it is before 2:00. This is a small chore to take on maybe once a month or every other month for about 20 minutes, but a huge help and time saver for me. I am so appreciative of my parents and grandparents that are able to help do Tuesday Folders!
Text Box: Text Box: Tuesday Lunch
Since we eat lunches in our classrooms here at GCS, Tuesday Lunch volunteers give me a break to enjoy lunch with my fellow teachers. If you are able to enjoy lunch with the class and take them to recess on a Tuesday afternoon, please sign up at Back to School night. It is a small thing to take on, but one that I truly appreciate.
Text Box: Text Box: YOUNG AUTHORS AND ILLUSTRATORS
GCS participates in the ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) Young Authors and Illustrators Olympics each year. This is a special event in which each student writes a book. The books are judged and three finalists from each class are chosen. The finalists will then go to the District Olympics where they will participate in author led workshops and be awarded with their first, second, or third place ribbons. Our school will be hosting the District Olympics again this year, and I will need a few volunteers to help sit at tables to sale author books, to guide visitors to their places, and to help students during any hands-on workshops. If you can volunteer for this, please email me.

Text Box: Text Box: OTHER FUN WAYS TO VOLUNTEER IN OUR CLASSROOM

We always need field trip drivers. Due to the high cost of gas, I will try to schedule short distance field trips when possible.

Don’t forget to sign up to be a room mom or dad at Back to School night, also. The room parent will be my go to person for party plans, activity ideas, and more!

I may ask for a parent to speak or present on special topics of interest from time to time. If you have something that you would like to share pertaining to the units you see on your child’s calendar, please contact me. The students love outside information!

And we always need a few helping hands to prepare art activities, chapel specials, field day, and much, much more!
